A new report issued by the Broadband Commission of the United Nations reported that the number of Internet users worldwide will reach 3.5 billion people by the end of the current year 2016, which represents 47% of the total world population.
And despite the fact that China and India possess the largest number in terms of Internet users, the two countries next to four other countries, namely Pakistan, Indonesia, Nigeria and Bangladesh, together represent 55% of the total population who are still not connected to the Internet around the world.
The 20 countries including the United States represent 75 percent of those who do not use the Internet, and therefore the report finds that the targeted efforts in a few key markets can help greatly to reduce the digital divide between the unconnected and unconnected to the Internet, who number 3.9 billion people, according to the latest estimates.

In total, there are 91 countries where the number of residents who use the Internet for more than 50%, compared with 79 countries in 2015.
According to the report the lowest levels of use of the Internet around the world are found in Africa, since less than 3% of the population using the Internet in a number of countries Chad include 2.7% and Sierra Leone 2.5%, Niger, 2.2% and Somalia, 1.8% and Eritrea 1.1%.
